i found the morning slumbering on my lawn
as if it fell there stumbling in the night
and giggling with fatigue gave up the dawn
until i spied it by my waking light
soft and slow by no duress compelled
it stirred and sat up rose a little higher
in that honest moment i beheld
the tousled beauty of the evening prior
the grassy carpet of the shortcropped dress
with wildflower frill
midnight rain had made it wetter
left the laces loose and less
there was a gaze a certain sunny chill
wove winter blanket from my autumn sweater
somewhere not so far from my retreat
the world went marching on
cars kept thundering up the cruddy street
i hardly heard a thing my eye was drawn
down the pale horizon bare
sleepfreckled shoulders flexing with a yawn
dewy droplets nestled there
starry diamond dust in jeweldowned hair
stiff and sighing for a tease
and then the glittered tickling of the breeze
